Apologies for no post last week, I have been busy re-decorating bedroom (which I will make a post for when complete) and general life busyness. Anyhow, last Friday I attended a meet with the Newcastle Upon Tyne lolitas, if you live in this part of the world check us out on
Facebook.
The meet theme was 'Angels vs Demons' and took an excursion to Durham, a city 15 minutes from Newcastle. It was my first time there so I was looking forward to exploring it~
♥ Coordinate ♥
Horns: Handmade
Mask & Fan: Off-brand
Wig: Bodyline
OP: Bodyline
Gloves: Bodyline/Claires
Tights: Off-brand
Shoes: Off-brand
I decided to go for a demon as recently I have been falling in love with the Gothic side of lolita, I absolutely love this OP, for Bodyline it's very good quality and one of the cheaper ones too! (As far as I'm aware hasn't had a ridiculous price hike like some of their other items). The mask and fan I found whilst clearing out my room and thought I could tie them into the theme for a masquerade demon who feeds off drunk souls... (totally not made up on the spot heh)
♥ The meet ♥
After meeting up with everyone we first visited a cute little vintage shop called 'Ding Dong Vintage'. We all had to try very hard not to buy anything/everything, I spotted so many blouses which would have fit in my wardrobe and lots of jewellery and other cute bits and bobs. I overhead some of the comm members were vintage fans so this was a good and bad idea. The woman who owned the shop was super nice to us and very welcoming, asking us questions on the fashion and giving compliments. In fact Durham was very chill with us, I didn't overhear any negativity but got some compliments and a random drunk guy attempting to flirt, but not being local I didn't even understand what he was saying and just laughed it off.
Getting some attention outside of the shop.
I had to resist taking this whole rail with me home.
Well angels need to wear clothes too...
A magpie would have a field day.
After trying not to spend all our money on vintage things we headed to the beautiful riverside to go to a Chinese buffet and spend all our money on food instead. It was nice for a basic all you can eat buffet and the staff were very friendly to us and had a nice chat to them. Ended up eating more dessert than savory food oops. We also all introduced each other and described were we got our coordinates from, as there was a big turnout some people didn't know each other so this was a nice opportunity for me to forget everyone's names.
Later after stuffing our faces it was photoshoot time~ We took photos outside of the restaurant on the riverside with a lovely bridge in the background. Thankfully the rain decided to arrive after the coordinate photos were taken so we hid under a shelter for the obligatory selfie time.
But first let us take a selfie(s).
Next we went through the beautiful city and up one too many hills to visit the famous cathedral for more photos and to take a look around. The city is old with cobbled streets, which was pretty however not a fun time if you had heels (thankfully I wore flats) but I was still nakered from walking. There were many cute independent shops for a city but also some high street stores, all which looked old/Victorian on the outside. I think I counted about a dozen tea rooms? A lolita's paradise! It's quite small for a city and we soon reached out destination, to everyone's delight.
This place has a castle and a cathedral on top of a pretty hill not fair.
City square with another pretty religious building.
Walking through the streets.
Here it is!
We hung out outside of the cathedral near some gravestones, where another lolita took more photos of us on a film which was pretty cool. I could see why the cathedral is famous and a hotspot for tourists, it's big and very beautiful! (Okay I'm sure there's religious reasons too but I'm not a religious person) Speaking of tourists, half the population of Belgium came up to us and asked for photos and what we were wearing:
Lolita meet-ups: A tourist hotspot.
There were lovely to us bless them, always feel like a celebrity when wearing lolita with all the attention huh? Whilst more photos were being taken we did what everyone else does in the their spare time and took even more bloody selfies and just hung around making use of the 'half decent' weather and got to know everyone, as there were a few people who were new and were wearing lolita for the first time! I wasn't able to tell, I wished my first coordinate looked that good haha
The setting was rather fitting to our theme.
Alas just after everyone got a photo of themselves the 'half-decent' weather disappeared and the heavens came down, so we ran into a nearby cafe. After sorting ourselves out and making sure nothing on our head disappeared, as someones Madonna crown decided to take it's own trip, we sat and had a cup of tea prolonging the British stereotype more. I decided to have the 'chamomile, vanilla & honey' tea which was nice and sweet and what I needed~
British cure for everything.
We took the opportunity to then explain our coordinates as it was a themed meet, this is when I completely made up the backstory for mine as I didn't think it out much like everyone else whoops. Also the winners for the coordinate contest were decided which would have been a hard task as everyone looked stunning, thankfully I didn't have to decide and fully agreed with who won! After the tea and getting warmed up it was decided to call it a day. It was surprising late well, time does fly when you are having fun~
Walking down all the hills the weather seemed to carry on being bipolar, which stopped us from doing more exploring which was sad, but some of the shops were closing anyways as it seemed to have more town like opening hours. Just before reaching the train station the weatherman really shown us he either wanted us to stay or to piss off I couldn't really tell:
It's a day before June...
We did make it out of Durham alive and back to Newcastle. Overall I had a fabulous day, it was a lot of fun and the meet had a good turnout with people I never met before and it's always nice to meet new people! Everyone put in lots of effort with their coordinates (If you are on Closet of Frills on Facebook you may have noticed a few of us Geordie lot posting on there already) and Durham is very lovely I will be visiting again to have a good mooch! Many thanks to the organisers

So what would you chose, angel or demon?
